Le Corbusier

I think Corbusier is a great example of the use of ergonomics in architecture. He was a pioneer in studies of modern high design and was dedicated to providing better living conditions for the residents of crowded cities. His creations worked around people, to make their life easier and more efficient. However I also think we need freedom in our living area, we need to have to room to be creative. For example the frankfurt kitchen created by Margarete Schütte-Lihotzky (austrian achitect), was studied to perfection to save time in cooking and cleaning, but everything had its place, people were unable to have freedom in the organisation of their kitchen, thus only a few were installed. Le Corbusier introduced this into his creations whilst maintaining a clean and organised layout.

Above… The highly organised Frankfurt Kitchen, and below, the simple elegance of Le Corbusier
